Why Americans can't afford college. (It isn't because rich people want you to remain uneducated.) Each year we spend...
$70 billion on lottery tickets,
$73 billion on gambling,
$80 billion on cigarettes,
$72 billion on alcohol,
$400 billion a year on infomercial purchases (that go unused),
$532 million on daily internet deals,
$36 billion on video games,
$47 billion on pizza,
$210 billion on fast food, and
$9.1 billion on Halloween...

This is a post I made to my FB page recently. I received several likes, comments (good and bad), etc. In order to clarify some statements, I posted a second time dealing with this subject. Following is the second post.
Well, my last post seemed to have gotten a few actions and reactions, so I thought I'd clarify why I wrote it before I continue on. On my CashCourse Twitter account I try to give relevant financial advice to those who are looking to get out of debt. I have been in debt, and in my case, it was mostly through making poor financial decisions. I realize that some people are struggling financially through no fault of their own, but many are also having difficulties due to poor financial planning. On my blog, and on my Twitter page I offer advice based on what I have done over the years to improve my financial situation. As it is, I get many replies, retweets, etc. dealing with financial difficulties. I find it bizarre how many people simply prefer to play the blame game instead of taking responsibility for their own mistakes. There is a Twitter account with the tag Jason 4 Congress. His main tagline is...

That's the statement I was referring to in my previous post. Probably one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard. Apparently college is expensive, not because it costs money to educate people (professors, coaches, teachers, janitors, etc. obviously work for free - electricity, water, gas are no doubt supplied to universities free of charge - books, etc. are donated free of charge by publishing companies), so it is abundantly clear that the only justification for the high cost of a college level education is....
"We have a grotesque level of wealth inequality in this country that is the direct product of transferring wealth from marginalized communities and the 99%, to the predominantly white, straight, male 1%. It’s time to end this and create an economy that works for all." @CallForCongress
"They are terrified of educated proletariat waking up to the lie that they earned their riches through intelligence and hard work and not through a legacy of generations of exploitation that they lucked into at birth." @HuaJai8
"The difference though is that the uneducated are far easier to manipulate and exploit. The capitalist class relies on the vast majority of people being unaware of the reality of their condition." @Taurl_
"Rich people oppose free college because they like having a financial barrier to prosperity." @LeeNapier7
"All part of the ruling class tryna (sic) maintain their hold on power. Transparency, instant global communications, and growing rejection of white supremacy, imperialism, and class divides are making it very difficult for them. Let's keep it up!" @GremlinFarts
Shockingly, there are people that actually believe this drivel. My suggestion to him was that "While we're at it, let's just make everything free. As soon as you are born you automatically get a free house, a free Lamborghini, free food for life, free utilities for life, free medical care, a free education, etc. We pay for those because the rich are exploiting the poor." Has nothing to do with the fact that these things cost money to create and maintain. (Everybody knows this.)
Another thing I found humorous in his Twitter posts was that he was begging people for donations. So, we shouldn't pay colleges and universities for the education they provide, but we should pay him to go join Congress?
Hmmmm.
